Pikler® toddler crib
a crib surrounded by low bars on three sides with a partial opening on the fourth side in a rounded form
To whom and when we recommend it
The usual high bars that provide a protected shelter on an infant’s crib may become dangerous when a child tries to climb over them independently in the absence of an adult. At this point we recommend the Pikler toddler crib, on which the child can sit or lie down independently when he gets tired and can get out of on his own after waking up.
The arched, rounded design at the opening of the bars enables the child to safely climb into and out of the crib any time during the day. When sleeping, the bars on the three sides of the crib prevent him from falling off.
How we recommend it
In the space arranged according to Pikler’s pedagogical principles, this toddler crib is continuously available: it is located within or right next to the playing area. It is important that the children can use it independently, because even outside of their regular sleeping times they may need a confined, personal space where they can withdraw and rest from time to time. Two to four-year-old children use it for looking at a book or when being engaged in some other peaceful activity, or, at times, for playing together with a peer.
